I only knew Mr. Wheeler for a short while but also know it was a gift from God because every step of the way was led by Him. I knew nothing of any of daddy's WWII until after his death and I started researching. It was truly a blessing to find any information. Feel free to contact me I'd love to even know the addresses of my father and Mr Wheeler at the time. That is information I don't even have. I'd love to hear any stories you may know of your father, if you decide to share.
DollyHIBISCUS HOUSEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16837055484501484003noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6725185168123342341.post-30633812581083144852021-02-09T00:14:30.613-05:002021-02-09T00:14:30.613-05:00My father, Donald Loveland also survived the sinki...My father, Donald Loveland also survived the sinking of LST 422. Among his WWII souvenirs he left a couple of notebooks with names and addresses of men he met. Carl D Johnson and Jimmie Wheeler are among these listings. Dad died in 1958 and we knew little of his war experience until I read "Bastard Batallion". You were fortunate to have your father and Mr Wheeler in your adult life.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06468343218566720601noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6725185168123342341.post-34715497858460877612020-12-09T08:49:25.553-05:002020-12-09T08:49:25.553-05:00Hi, I'm just seeing this comment. We had never seen this picture before and believe it to be the last living picture we have of him. We randomly found this site while searching for information on his Chemical battalion. We knew he passed when his LST hit a submerged mine off of Anzio but that was all we knew. I lost him in 1990 and to see and hear this close war buddy talk about him gave me chills! Chuck and I both agreed and it's true that Mr. Wheeler have some of the same mannerisms and thoughts. Oh they are different but share some of the same. One side affect from this visit, a good one, we fell in love with him. Quite the character, quite the man. We'll never forget him and will stay in touch with the family. Yes in my prayers.HIBISCUS HOUSEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16837055484501484003noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6725185168123342341.post-3601565582196637522016-09-21T06:17:23.972-04:002016-09-21T06:17:23.972-04:00That would have been so scary!
