BEAUTY & FASHION SAVING TIPS

I have always said that the best look is the most simple one.  Getting older I still stand by that idea.  Simple is better.  Sometimes, especially with allergies we have tell tale signs that give us away.  Some signs may be waking up with very dark under eye circles.

Sometimes I don't sleep well and am a night owl so it shows in the face.  If I've been extremely busy or stressed it shows.

All of these things make a difference in how we look.  Eat well balanced meals, get plenty of rest, try to reduce stress where possible and do make the time to pamper yourself. (I should do more of this myself.)

BEAUTY TIPS & POINTERS

I sure don't claim to be a beauty expert, by any means, but am sharing what works for me.  Feel free to comment with what works well for you.  I'd love to hear from you!

EAT WELL
Eat a balanced meal with plenty of fresh vegetables.  Take the time to enjoy a good healthy meal.  We are so busy/rushed these days.  Relaxing with a meal, that is a luxury to be taken.

REST WELL
Schedule a break time to rest.  I know, I know if you are a go-getter like myself that is almost impossible to do.  Time yourself and then get back to work.  It will make for a more productive day.

SLEEP WELL
Take it from a night owl, that is something hard to do.  Hormones leave us and it becomes even harder.  Make a point to rest and sleep.  I know being one of those that think they have to control/take care of things or everything will fall apart.  It's not true, so take the time and rest for your well being.

GET PLENTY OF EXERCISE.
You don't have to go to a gym to stay active, if you do that is great!  Just stay active, don't become a couch potato. Lock up all of your electronics.  Get out there and enjoy life!  Take a walk, while enjoying all the beauty around you.  Walking is great exercise.  Garden, let me tell you that is exercise! Stay active.

PAMPER YOURSELF
Yes, I'll admit it, I am one of those who puts everybody else first, always to the point of not taking care of myself.  For those with the same mindset, I say it's ok to do so. Maybe one day it will sink in.  I do try from time to time to do this. (Well, it may come to me after I see my nails need trimming or I need to shave my legs....that kind of thing....).

This is one very important thing to do.
When you age especially, your skin will become more dry.

CLEANSE
Find a great face cleanser for your skin type.  You'll know it when you find it.  You may even have to change many times until you find just the right one. (I did and they quit making it! What luck, oh well, found another.) Keep your skin clean that is one of the best tips I can give you.
Tip* Don't use soap on your face! Ever!

MOISTURIZE

Find a great moisturizer for your age group and use it.

The line I had was discontinued and so I've been on an expensive search to find just the right one.

I have made my own believe it or not until I find just the right one.  Both are a bit heavy and one is a little greasy, so I use them sparingly and at night only.

If you have the urge for a DIY:   ANTI-AGING FACE CREAMS, try one of mine.  They are pretty good and I know what is in them.

Don't forget to moisturize your decolletage, arms & legs.

MAKEUP

I've said it before and will say it again, "The best makeup looks as if you have no makeup on at all!"  That's right you want YOUR true beauty to shine through, not the makeup!

FIND A GREAT FOUNDATION
FOR YOUR AGE GROUP: Tip**  As we grow older we need a lighter foundation. (I know at an older age we have a little more to cover up, but less is best).
FIND JUST THE RIGHT PRODUCT The right one will match your skin color and will help make your beautiful skin glow.

BUY A GREAT COVER UP
FOR THOSE IMPERFECTIONS (we all have them, a scar here, maybe an oh no, age spot, bump, etc.)  I have allergies and dark under eye circles are the norm.  Some days I shouldn't leave home without covering those up.  You may have those or other issues so you understand a little light cover up is essential. It is sometimes hard, but search for the great cover up for you.  You don't want to look like you have raccoon eyes.

USE A LIGHT TOUCH WITH THE MAKEUP FOR ALL AGES--WHEN YOUNG Let your BEAUTIFUL COMPLEXION shine through and when OLDER let your face show only covering those little wrinkles, imperfections and dark spots, that come from living!

BLUSH: LIGHT to very LIGHT touch.
OLDER LADIES & YOUNG TEENS we look like CLOWNS if we use too much blush, eye shadow  eyeliner, and foundation.

LINERS

USE LIP LINER

NO NO NO

I didn't say do this!  (unless it is your style).

REASON FOR LINING LIPS:

As we age the tiny wrinkles around the mouth sometimes make easy access for lipstick to run off your lips and onto your face. I do line mine now for protection, even though it has never happened to me.

**Pet Peeve Don't vary in color too much it will look awkward, if you're going for a more natural look.

There are so many beautiful colors in makeup!  I remember in my younger days spending quite a lot of time in the drug stores looking at lipsticks eye shadows etc.

This red color is beautiful!  I can not wear red but for those that can, it is very pretty.

I had a sister in law Bettye and she swore by her red lipstick.  If time was limited she would put that on and feel put together.

EYE LINERS, SHADOWS, MASCARAS, EYE BROW COLORS

They make such assortments of all of these.  I do have a suggestion, one that works for me anyway, don't have a heavy hand with these either.  As we age, a lighter color may be needed in all of the above. I use a blonde eyebrow color, because my hair has now gone from dark blonde, to blonde, to light blonde/gray/white.

COSMETIC BRUSHES

BUY GREAT ONES AND KEEP your cosmetic brushes clean and in shape.  CHANGE them out when needed.

My daughter, Carly told me recently to change or wash my blush brush because unknown to me, I had loose brush bristles on my cheeks.  I thought, hmm I've only had that blush brush for 10 years! EGADS time for a change.  I don't see as well now without my readers and who can wear those and put on makeup?

NAILS

I love nails and confess mine are rarely painted, or very long.  I personally work so hard at all I do whether it be gardening, housework, crafting that they get in my way.  BUT I do love beautiful nails on others!

POLISH is a beautiful thing and once had quite a collection. I have a pet peeve, if you do your nails, please keep them up nothing looks worse to me than nail polish peeling or half gone and needing repair.

HAIR

Find a great stylist!  Find a good style and enjoy!
My daughter Catie is an excellent hair stylist and she keeps mine easier to manage.  I only get it done twice a year because as you can see in the pictures below, I keep the same style I've had my entire life, only shorter and now gray!  I am lucky!  The grey I have others are dying theirs to get!  Some really wonderful things come with aging!  Enjoy!

Photo on Left (a couple of years ago), a color I loved, Catie gave me. Sadly my hair was thinning so I chose not to color anymore. My natural color now which is a blending of platinum, gray and white.  It is beginning to grow on me and I like it!

Color by Catie

One of her Clients

Check out the number of colors

Tip** Do have a stylist color your hair.  Box color has the strongest chemicals in them and no matter what they say can damage your hair.  I know I am living proof of using box colors off and on for many years.  My hair is thinning and I don't like it!  So get your hair done by a great colorist such as my Catie!

I love the fact that she does color natural colors and they all seem flawlessly natural and then she can do multi colors such as the ones above in one of her clients.  Below, (although not her clients pictured) are colors she does as well.  Young and old alike love these.

FASHION

The same is true in fashion.  Yes it is.  Buy what says you, your signature style.

Buy what you like and take care of the garments.  So they will last you for years to come.

Add accessories and new items to change with the times if you wish.

Money Savings!

I have a problem.  I'll admit it I do.  When I find a garment that I like, it seems that I think I can't leave the store without one of every color.  Yes, I'm breaking that one (slowly).

RECAP:
You may ask yourself how does any of this save money?

SAVINGS OCCUR WHEN YOU

EAT WELL

Buy in bulk (savings) Store what you buy for later use-Fridge-Freezer-Pantry/Canning your own.
Doing such things as in the links below will allow you to eat better foods at a moments notice.  It is just as easy to reach for fresh washed fruit as it is a Little Debbie cake. (Don't get me wrong I like those and eat them although rarely). But healthier choices become delicious choices if prepared for quick snacking/eating.
PREPPING FRUITS & VEGETABLES FOR A WEEK

GROW YOUR OWN FRUITS AND VEGETABLES MAKE FOR MONEY SAVINGS AS WELL!

I AM ENJOYING MY MIRACLEGRO AEROGARDEN
The herbs have been fabulous!  I've started and rooted more to keep me supplied all Spring and Summer.  Check out the homegrown Basil and tomato in picture below!

AT THIS MOMENT I AM GROWING LETTUCE SO WE'LL HAVE A SALAD AT OUR FINGERTIPS!  PLUS ALL THE HERBS WE CAN USE FOR OUR DRESSINGS!

Check out the lettuce!
Overnight it can reach the top of the lights!
I thin and use!

REST

YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOURSELF TAKE THE TIME TO REST.
SLEEP WELL IF YOU CAN.  MAKE YOUR BEDROOM A PLACE FOR REST.
SOMETIMES AS WE AGE OUR HORMONES CAN REEK HAVOC ON OUR SLEEPING PATTERNS BUT IN TIME THAT HOPEFULLY WILL RESOLVE ITSELF. (I find that I have trouble sleeping a long time now., I say that but even in my youngest of days I didn't sleep a lot).  My kids grew up with the sound of a sewing machine whirling late into the next mornings.  I also tend to think about things through the night, some of the best as well as worst thoughts happen then....whew well say a prayer and get a good night's sleep if you can.
MAKE THE TIME TO TAKE A LEISURELY BATH/SHOWER AND PAMPER YOURSELF.  WE LADIES TEND TO TAKE CARE OF EVERYONE MORE THAN WE DO OURSELVES.  MOST OF US DO ANYWAY.  IT ISN'T SELFISH TO TAKE A LITTLE TIME TO ENJOY WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO.  (that is what I am telling myself anyway, maybe I will listen one day..lol)

MAKEUP

EVERYBODY PROBABLY REMEMBERS AS A  TEENAGER, HOW MUCH MONEY WAS SPENT.  YES WHAT FUN THAT WAS.
AS, I'VE STATED BEFORE, MY THOUGHTS ARE THAT NATURAL IS BEST LOOK TO HAVE.
WE ALL HAVE THOSE REALLY COOL, WAY OUT THERE, FRIENDS THAT HAVE THEIR VERY OWN STYLE AND LOOK. YOU KNOW THE FRIENDS THAT YOU SAY TO YOURSELF, "SHE DID THAT?" THEN THINK, "HEY THAT IS COOL!" MAYBE NOT SOMETHING YOU WOULD DO BUT YOU LIKE IT!
EVEN SO, FIND YOUR LOOK IN MAKEUP AND SPEND ACCORDINGLY.  I LOVE THE DIFFERENT QUIRKY LOOKS TOO BUT, ME I AM WHAT I AM.

*Pet Peeve: I do not like foundation that doesn't match the color of your skin.  Believe me I've used some that made me look like a ghost.

I realize this makeup job was done on purpose, but I've had that look with a foundation that was far too light for my skin.

BUY WHAT YOU, YOURSELF WILL USE
NARROW DOWN YOUR BRANDS AND PRODUCTS
BUY ON SALE
IMPORTANT:  USE WHAT YOU BUY BEFORE FILLING YOUR MAKEUP DRAWERS WITH PRODUCT THAT YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO USE BEFORE HAVING TO THROW AWAY!
WITH THAT IN MIND GO THROUGH YOUR MAKEUP, CLEAR, CLEAN, GIFT OR THROW AWAY UNUSED ITEMS THAT HAVE OUTLIVED THEIR SAFE LIFETIME.
DON'T REPLENISH WITH TOO MANY ITEMS, LIMIT YOURSELF TO THE SPACE YOU HAVE AND THE USE YOU GIVE IT!
I AM AMAZED AT HOW LITTLE YOU NEED TO HAVE A QUICK MAKEUP FOR OUT THE DOOR, WORK OR PLAY. IT ONLY TAKES A FEW PRODUCTS!
HOW MUCH CAN YOU PUT ON ONE FACE?  KEEP IN MIND ONLY A FEW PRODUCTS, FOR MANY SAVINGS!

IN CONCLUSION:

THE BEST TIPS I CAN GIVE YOU ARE:
FIND WHAT YOU LIKE BEST!
BUY ONLY WHAT YOU NEED, LIKE AND WILL USE! ADD LITTLE EXTRAS, SPACE ALLOWING.
USE THESE BEFORE RESTOCKING!
CLEAN/CLEAR EXPIRED PRODUCTS
KEEP AREA CLEAN IN ORDER, WHILE ALSO DOING INVENTORY OF YOUR PRODUCTS.
IT IS EASIER TO REPLACE IN A TIMELY MANNER AND THIS GIVES YOU TIME TO ORDER IF ONE OF YOUR ITEMS IS ON SALE OR JUST TOO DARN GOOD TO PASS UP!

BE YOURSELF, DO WHAT YOU LIKE, WEAR WHAT YOU LIKE, FADS COME AND GO, SAVINGS COME FROM NOT WASTING YOUR MONEY ON THINGS THAT WILL!  THOSE CAN BE YOUR LITTLE ADDITIONS FROM TIME TO TIME.

I can tell you that if you find your look and add only a few extras you can save time and money in your makeup, wardrobe, and skincare regiment!  You don't have to purchase as often and you automatically know when you need something.  Win Win Situation!

Having said all of this I am somewhat of a cross between a Minimalist  and a Hoarder !  Yes, I'm laughing too, but it is true!

Happy Savings to You!

Sorry for the extra long post!
I left my notes in didn't have time to edit and remove.

Daughter says, "Oh, just leave them in, somebody may have 5 hrs to read this stuff.."
I'm laughing, and left them in...

Some of the photographs used in today's post came from a royalty free site UNSPLASH
