SPOTLIGHT: "A Man Named Pearl"

.

I had heard about Mr. Pearl Fryar and his topiary art for quite a number of years.  Making It Grow, a local show.  had shown him and his work. It impressed me but I never took the time to go see it.  It seems if you live in an area you tend not to enjoy all that the area has to offer. I don't know why that is, but so often that is the case.

Chuck and I went this past Monday to Bishopville to actually pick up chicken feed. We were on our way home when we saw his sign. Chuck said, " let's go."  I told him, " we probably had to make reservations to see it"...but off we went.  When we stopped I told him, " I was going to sit in the car and take a few pics."  Well that lasted all of one second. I barely gave him time to stop the car before I was out with camera in hand.  I stood in amazement, mouth open in awe. It seemed to me as if the plants were dancing, moving, just beautiful!

Time passed so quickly, before I knew it. we had been there quite a while.   I had taken 135 pictures!

Mr. Fryar's cats had decided that they liked me and I them.

My pictures do not do justice to the beauty of his work. You have to be there to witness the creativity. The garden has a life of it's own.

Look at the smoke coming out of the chimney!
I love this picture so homey and so welcoming.

Mr. Fryar, you have accomplished what you set out to do.
I left there feeling, amazed and so ......well I can't explain it!

Please if you are in South Carolina visit this garden and you will see what I mean.

Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Fryar
for sharing your life and your gardens with all of us.
Look at it for this time of the year can you imagine how it must look in the Spring?

One of Mr. Fryar's sayings:

“I want people to leave with that message…Life is about choices, about love and peace, and if you accomplish them in that order, life is going to be good.”

  2. Dear Dolly,
I just viewed all of your lovely photos from My Fryar's garden and the grounds are truly breathtakingly beautiful. I'm sure glad you let the hubby stop the car, haha. I need my Hibiscus House fix dear, no standing on train tracks. I am so grateful that you shared this humble man's great work, what a labor of love. I hope to get to see it someday too. Til then, I'll dream about it often.

  5. Lucky you! I saw him on tv a few years ago. They featured him and I think it was called A Man Named Pearl. His website was so bogged down afterwards it took a couple of days to be able to get on there. He is quite something!
