We have a few chickens out here and they are a source of amusement as well as delicious farm fresh eggs. Each little chicken is as different as you and I. They are funny little characters.
I like the fact that I know that the eggs are so delicious and much more nutritious than the factory farm store eggs. Did you know that the eggs you purchase in the grocery could be as old as 45 days? When you have your own you know when they are layed. You also know what they are fed because you are the one feeding them. What goes into the chicken comes out in the egg. After the egg scare I intend to keep these few chickens too. Cholesterol is lower, also they have more vitamins. Well see below:
• 1⁄3 less cholesterol• 1⁄4 less saturated fat• 2⁄3 more vitamin A• 2 times more omega-3 fatty acids• 3 times more vitamin E• 7 times more beta carotene
I think this is a great way to have a little healthier diet and not so much work. Eventually I hope there will be a better supply of truly free range eggs and poultry that we can buy. The factory farms of today are horrendous.
Six Amazing Health Benefits of Eggs by Dr. Axe

Chewy the Great Pyrenees, the chicken guard dog
He is funny himself hit the link below to check out his work
We had just about given up on having chickens out here on the farmland. We had bought some at auction they all were killed. I hatched two batches they are now gone. I tried everything to keep them alive. Covered the tops of the pens. A racoon would find a hole, in it would go.
We have had coyotes, racoons, opossums, everything imaginable for predators, but until we found Chewy.....not good..That in itself is a problem, he played with 2 chickens and killed them. We loved them so.
We have a huge chain link fence at back of 2 acres....you see I am allergic to them. Inside this fence we have dog kennels. We have wired bottom outside and covered tops with wire and tarps. We have a little chicken house in each one that keeps dog out and dog keep other critters out.
I have come to the conclusion that it is a never ending learning process with live animals.
But isn't it fun?
I'm glad you came to visit today. I hope you've learned that eggs are not as bad as we've been led to believe. Especially if they are given to you by some very pretty hens in your own backyard. You control what they eat and they are much healthier for you than CAFO raised eggs.
If you can buy farm fresh eggs from someone local I advise you to do so. You can't beat the color, the richness and delicious taste. Compared to store bought factory eggs they are 100% better in taste and for your health.
